I want to start afresh. I started knelt next to one of the rose, pulled my bag out and brought out the gardening tools my mother always forced us to keep in our rooms. Just in case we got the each to tend to her flowers. Like she wouldn't have grounded us for even sniffing one. I plucked one of the red roses, and watched them turn into the color black. The door opened again, even in the rain I could hear it. The girls filed out, Nona avoided me. She and her friends got into their cars and left.

The smoke, the fire, the lies—none of it mattered when he looked at her like that. His fingers brushed her cheek, slow and reverent. “I tried to stay away from you,” he said. “But you didn’t.” Their lips met in a crash of heat and confusion, need and fury. Her hands tangled in his hair. His mouth was urgent, devouring, worshipping. The kiss deepened, wild and consuming, like the fire roaring through the mansion. He pinned her against the wall, his hands exploring every inch of her with desperate intensity. She gasped as he kissed down her neck, her collarbone, pushing the fabric of her maid’s uniform aside like it offended him. Their breaths mingled in a haze of lust and smoke.

Without a doubt, I must say that grandma always liked flowers especially roses, grandpa always tells me the beautiful stories of when he courted her and that never in his thick hands marked by the day-to-day work, a bouquet of precious red roses as red as the blood itself was missing. Whenever she narrates the story of her love, she tells me about those moments and emphasizes that each rose was her chosen promise, a rose for each day of their past union, the eternal promise for the love of her life and since then the courtyard of the house has become a beautiful rose bush with an aroma as sweet as honey. I admired them until I did it and I was so comfortable with that memory until my thought

His Pov: I run my fingers through her silky dark brown hair, feeling the tremors of her quiet sobs as they shake her fragile frame. Her fists clutch desperately at my shirt, the fabric growing damp with her tears—but I couldn't care less. What mattered was the way she fit against me, small and trembling, as if she was trying to disappear into my presence. I inhale deeply, letting the scent of roses and a faint trace of antiseptic medicine wrap around my senses. It clings to her like a ghost of past pain, something she hasn’t quite escaped.

"It says the bond strengthens gradually, culminating in the final ritual." Lilly looked between Kenny and Axel, a slight blush coloring her cheeks. "On my eighteenth birthday." Each blossom seemed to pulse with its own inner light, as if alive in some impossible way. "A countdown?" Lilly whispered, gently touching one of the delicate petals. "Until what?"
