My hands shook a little after I put my signature on the paper as I realized the gravity of what I had just done. I was officially divorced. As I stared at the signed papers, something shifted inside me. It wasn’t just grief any more; it was clarity. I had nothing left tying me to Washington city. No family. No home. There's no reason to stay. The love I’d fought for, cried for and defended had never truly existed. Julian had walked out of our marriage long before today. I was just the last one to leave. And maybe, just maybe, that made me stronger. I wiped my tears, squared my shoulders, and told myself I would not be broken. I would start again on my own terms.

“Theresa is an attorney. Respect her! She's not from a poor background.” He hit his hand on the wall and slammed the door. Jay nodded in disdain. “Your brother is a fucking tsundere.” I said softly, reaching my hand to the door knob. “No worries, I will exercise a lot of patience with Brooke. Brooke's attitude is nothing compared to Richard's tantrums. I endured lots of shits just to stay with him, I don't want to be called a divorcee. My parents marriage lasted decades. I would look like a disappointment if mine didn't last.

I turned around and saw Daniel staring at me with a pointed look. "Is that the reason?" He asked, his voice ice cold. Confused I asked back, "what?" “You already have a man waiting for you.” I rolled my eyes. Before I could respond, our names were called. We entered the office and settled into the chairs.The woman behind the desk, possibly in her mid-fifties, finally looked up after reviewing our documents. She lowered her glasses and cleared her throat. Daniel Brookes, 28 years and Emma Brooks 24 years. Hmm, that's young. So why are you two getting divorced.

Extremely private.” He paused. “He was married. But his wife died in a car accident.”

"I swear that I'll divorce you, Corbin Stallone." Corbin just scoffed mockingly and pinched my swollen red cheek. "Are you fucking done yet? Consider this a warning. Don't act all stubborn just for the sake of your dignity. You want a divorce from me? Over my fucking dead body!" I bit into his wrist, forcing him to release me. He hissed aloud in pain. "Skylar Greene! I'm going to bankrupt your family before the end of tomorrow!" I didn't back down and fought back. "Do it! But I'll still go through with the divorce!"

I am no longer part of your pathetic household, and the next time they come after me, I’ll treat them like the rabid strays they are. And let me promise you this, if they harass me again, you’ll be bailing them out from a police station.” “I had enough of your family’s nonsense when I was still chained to you in marriage, now that I’m divorced, I still can’t find peace?
