I can’t help it—I laugh, small and tired but real. “You didn’t have to do that.”
“I wanted to.” He glances toward Crysta, smile still in place. “I brought enough for your mom too. Thought it might sweeten the mood.”
Crysta’s gaze flicks to the box, then to Caiden, then to me. She looks like she wants to say something biting, but can’t find the words. Instead, she mutters, “I’m going to my room. I’m tired.”
