Broken by One, Desired by All
I screamed, but only bubbles rose from my lips.
"No!"
I fought, clawing through the water, but my lungs began to strain. The spell’s comfort, the artificial breath it had given me, faded. A pressure mounted in my chest.
"No, no, no!"
The spell was breaking. Then it snapped, my lungs burned. The magic keeping me alive flickered like a candle in the wind.
The sudden burn of water rushing into my lungs stunned me. My arms flailed as the current yanked me downward, spinning me through the chaos. I slammed against a jagged rock. Agony exploded through my side. My pearl pouch snapped free, sinking into the abyss.
