The Alpha Who Broke Me
It's getting stronger, harder to ignore.
As I near her neighborhood, I spot a cluster of blue roses growing wild beside the road. My hands turn the wheel before my brain catches up, pulling over onto the shoulder.
Blue roses. Her favorite.
I remember the day I found that out. We'd been walking through the botanical gardens, and she'd stopped in front of a display of exotic roses. Her eyes had lit up when she saw the blue ones, genetically modified to achieve that impossible color.
"They're beautiful," she'd breathed, reaching out to touch a petal with careful fingers. "My dad used to say blue roses meant mystery and the impossible. That they were for dreams that seemed out of reach."
