Rhea pushed Lena aside and slashed downward, slicing through its shoulder. The creature shrieked — golden corruption spraying across the snow like sparks. But it didn’t fall. It crawled backward, lips curled. Rhea muttered under her breath: “Damn it… They heal too fast…” Lena covered her mouth, tears streaming. “What do we do?!” Rhea’s jaw tightened. “I buy us time. You run.” Lena grabbed her arm violently. “No! I’m not leaving you!” Rhea whipped around, eyes burning. “You will if you want to live.”

Every beat of my heart felt crushed, like fingers pressing too hard from inside. "Leon!" Rhea shouted. A flash came from Rhea's palm, sudden, bright like a winter sky. The rogue froze mid-step, blade inches away. Then the air cracked open. Cold surged forward, not wind but something sharper. It hit him sideways. He flew backward, limbs loose, skidding through dust. Ten full strides across stone. My breath stayed stuck. Silence followed. For a second, I could not move. There she stood, Rhea, with eyes glowing like a clear sky after rain. Her ring, once dull, now pulsed strongly, matching each beat of my chest without missing a single one.

Kael crossed his arms. “And the fact is?” Rhea’s smile deepened. “She’s not normal.” Kael scoffed lightly. “That much is obvious.” But Rhea shook her head slightly. “No… you don’t understand.” She stepped closer to the railing, her fingers resting lightly against it. “There are wolves who are strong.” Her voice softened. “And then there are wolves who change things.” Kael’s expression darkened. “You think she’s one of those?” Rhea didn’t hesitate. “Yes.”

I ordered. Dylan paused and caught his breath. He began explaining about smelling their mate. He explained how they dressed quickly and came out to see Rhea. They saw her and knew she felt it too but she looked upset about it. I felt insanely jealous. It wasn’t that rare for a Luna to mate with twins. Often she would find she was mates to them both—something about the jointness from birth, but it was so incredibly rare that she’d mate with multiple brothers. I cursed them in my head. I couldn’t believe they mated with her. Now I could truly never have her. She would stay here, mated to them and I’d be left in torturous jealousy. I hated everything about this.

Rhea was no ordinary girl. Without a word, Rhea reached up and removed her contact lenses. A gasp escaped Anna's lips as the silver of Rhea’s true eyes was revealed glowing softly, almost ethereally. A sudden surge of energy passed through her like lightning, causing the ground beneath her feet to hum.

Her eyes glowed. Varek turned just in time to see her. His eyes widened. “Rhea no—” She didn’t hesitate. With every ounce of strength, rage, love, pain, and destiny coiled inside her, Rhea plunged the oak stake forward. Straight into his chest. Through his heart. It pierced all the way through and burst from his back in a spray of dark blood. Varek’s mouth opened in a silent gasp. His hands trembled against the wood.

The jolt traveled up into her shoulder, a hot shimmer under her skin that left a faint sting. The smell of sweat, leather, and churned dirt thickened between them. Somewhere nearby, someone’s blood hit the ground—a sharp copper edge on the air that made her wolf’s ears prick. “Good,” Rhea grunted. “Again.” They traded combinations—hook, block, elbow, step. Sweat began to prick at Rin’s spine despite the cold. She heard her own breath, harsh and steady, and the rasp of Rhea’s boots scraping for position. She saw Rhea’s weight shift a heartbeat before the sweep came, the familiar scythe of her leg seeking Rin’s ankle.

My body goes rock solid with shock. Did Hayley just bow down to Rhea? Why the fuck will she do that? My eyes almost leave my sockets as I witness what happens. Rhea dumbs the laundry basket filled with dirty clothes in front of Rhea and takes a killer pose with her hands folded over her breasts. “You think I wouldn't find out you had come to do your laundry without taking mine? You were trying to play smart, weren't you?”

Rhea roared, shifting into her massive white wolf form mid-leap. ​The chamber exploded into violence.
