“Keep it. Build me a house instead, in Downland Pack. That is where I shall live when I return.”
Then he raised his hands, whispering words neither of them understood. His voice was low, ancient, powerful. A chill swept through the hut, followed by a strange peace.
He blessed them and dismissed them.
Mitch and Lucille stood, muddled with thoughts, shaken by truths they barely understood. With heavy hearts, they stepped out of the hut.
Walking back through the path they came, they noticed the strange monkey-like creature was there again. It wasn’t close, but it leapt from tree to tree, always a little ahead of them.
