But Caesar didn’t move. Caesar took the canteen eagerly and filled himself on water until there was but a drop left. Then he cleared his gruff voice and spoke, “Her name was Dorothy.” His eyes were not filled with their usual hardened disinterest—but rather, he stared vacantly off into a middle distance. Caesar knew that Ivan valued his nephew above all else, and he believed that using the child as leverage would force Ivan to return their goods.
