Finally, with a groan, my eyes peel open. Sunlight pierces the room, stabbing straight into my skull. I wince.
“There she is,” Caius purrs, stepping into view.
He looks exactly the same, raven black hair, polished armor, clean white shirt, untouched by the chaos and blood he caused. Untouched by guilt. Untouched by morality. He sits with the ease of someone who believes the world belongs to him.
“You tried to run.” His fingers trail the bed frame beside me, slow and deliberate. “I would advise against it next time, Rain. I may not be so forgiving again.”
