She runs back to the sitting room, where Nathaniel and Heather remain. Nathaniel is throwing some potions around the room, reciting under his breath. Selene sits next to Heather, but the human pulls away from her. "Heather?" Selene feels a stab of pain at Heather's rejection.

“How did you know about that name?” Her sharp tone took Zen by surprise. “I found him while swimming in the lake hunting the mer-variants as mentioned in your map?” Hernie made a face and clicked her tongue with a disgusted look. “That monster is a variant, but he is slightly… different.” Zen waited patiently for Hernie to find the right words. Instead of her usual latte-coloured skin, it looks almost grey and there are deep circles under her large doe-eyes. Her dark brown hair that just passes her shoulders is wild and unkempt, and her small, lanky 4’9 frame looks fragile, though even I know as small and fragile as she looks, she could snap us all in half in seconds. “Isn’t there something you can do?” Aqen begs me.
