Just then, I heard a faint rustling outside. I stepped out at once to check. There, by the wall, a guy was trying to climb over, clearly intending to slip out. I raised my flashlight and shone it on him, calling out sharply, "Hey, what do you think you're doing? Campus rules state that no one is allowed to leave at night!" The guy turned around, startled, and in the beam of light, I finally saw his face. It was the same dude I had just run into in the grove. What was he doing, trying to sneak out at this hour?

“You camping?” I nodded. “There’s a nice campground near Barcombe. I’m headed there tomorrow. This weekend there’s a big market. People from all over will be selling goods, including food, artwork, clothing, you name it.” He leaned forward and tapped his nose. “Lots of shifters.” “Thanks.” I tended to stay away from large crowds because I was bombarded with questions from both humans and shifters alike. “But if you want a change from sleeping in a tent, there’s a place, can’t recall the name, not far from Barcombe that rents cabins to tourists. Shifter place.” He explained that the people on whose land the cabins were situated would be at the market.

Suddenly wolves attack. Big wolves with pure red eyes. Bigger than any ordinary wolf. Foam at their mouth, blood in their fur. Screams and cries in the night.

He stared at his companion's body as it lay twisted, steaming slightly from the silver that had burned in the wounds. “I-I’ll talk,” he croaked. Eric approached slowly. “Names. Locations.
