There was a pack’s name beside it too, but the name had already been crossed out by a red mark. Amelia looked it up, then found the name was “Green Lake”. “It used to be the territory of a pack named Green Lake. The most powerful wolf pack in the east.” Irene explained while keeping her eyes on the road. Eric and Ella had already fallen asleep in the backseat.

Company profiles followed next, showcasing the vision behind the Green Lake project. Soon, that very screen would serve as Alexander Group's digital billboard. But today, it told a story-of change, of care, of contribution. To avoid traffic chaos, the roads around Green Lake had been temporarily closed. Visitors parked in designated areas and walked to the venue. Only city officials and VVIP invitees were allowed past the gates, their vehicles directed into a special parking zone closer to the event grounds. This was more than a park. A central fire pit, encircled by large, smooth stones, serves as the heart of the campsite. Here, couples gather in the evenings, the crackling fire casting flickering shadows as they share stories and connect with their wolves beneath the vast, star-studded sky.

(Mira’s POV) The school bus rumbled down the winding road toward Ashford Academy’s private lakeside campgrounds, the trees blurring past the windows in a sea of green and gold. It was the annual senior retreat three full days and nights of “team-building,” outdoor activities, and “personal growth” that everyone knew was really just an excuse for chaos. For me, it felt like the perfect storm.

Chapter Twenty-One The massive bonfire in the center of the clearing had grown into a huge, roaring blaze of bright orange fire by the time the dark night fully settled over the deep woods of the campground. The sound of loud laughter, rough rock music, and the constant clink of glass beer bottles filled the cool night air as the patched brothers of the Iron Reapers and a few of their allied motorcycle clubs celebrated the successful end of the very first day of the annual run.

Aiden asked, “ah yes, I believe its your turn to ask me a question.” “Hmm.” She thought for a moment eyes still closed. “What’s Blue Lake like? I don’t think I have heard of it before, it’s just outside of Wakerton you said?” “Yes, about half hour drive. It’s a quiet place off the beaten path, most people don’t know about it and we kind of like it that way. It’s right beside a large lake, and we often have large beach parties on the shore. We do a lot of community events and we have all the basic needs including a small store and a medical clinic. Anything more and we can go into the city. It was a great place to grow up. Everyone knows everyone, it’s safe and we all look out for one another

Was I making a mistake? I took off the wig and glasses and dumped them in his backseat. At last, I felt normal again. “What’s this place called?” I glanced at the mountains, and a shudder went up my spine. What was he planning to do with me? “Doolhof.” He drove on, past the vineyards, into a glamping site, stretching for acres at the foothills of the mountain. “That’s the Groenberg Mountain Range. Welcome to Cosmos Adventure Camp, Doolhof.” He grinned at me, staring around him with pride.

I asked. **** When it was sunset we arrived at a large camp on a mountain area inside the forest. The landscape was complex. There were shelters made of wooden structures and the place seemed quite ancient than it should be. We hid behind the rocks surrounding the camp area and from the upper landscape I observed the environment. There was no sign of anything living. “Are you sure we are at the right place?” I asked Flynn. “Yes, I am sure this is their camp,” Flynn responded. “How many Kanima’s are we expecting to find?” I asked.

I signaled for everyone to get down, belly-crawling the last few meters to a vantage point behind a fallen log. What I saw made my blood run cold. It wasn't a camp. It was a compound. Three cabin-style buildings surrounded a central fire pit, with a larger structure set back against the mountain. The whole setup was alarmingly permanent, with cleared paths between buildings and even a rudimentary fence around the perimeter. At least fifteen wolves moved around the space, all armed, all moving with military precision. "Holy shit," Dominic breathed beside me. "This isn't a rogue camp. This is a fucking base."

"Hey! Are you all sleeping?" Mr Alberty, the Art teacher from Merganzel public school and the one among the two teachers in charge of our camp asks through the microphone, making everyone stir in their seats. "C'mon, wake up all of you. We'll be at Hondbill National Park in five minutes. Hey there! Wake the one sleeping beside you." There was nobody beside me. Adonis was still in the back with the dudes. "Guys, before we reach there, I'd like to give you a few quick instructions although I'm sure you've been instructed enough from your schools," Mr Alberty clears his throat when everyone finally stirs awake.
