Luigi stood and listen to her heart and sighed in relief upon learning that she’s doing fine. “What are you feeling aside from your heart’s pain?” he asked her. “My chest is tightening, and I can’t breath,” she says as she touches her chest.

My chest is still tight, but I allow myself a slow exhale. I press my hand to my chest, feeling the rapid beat of my heart.

He had pressed his hand to his chest without realizing it. Something was wrong. Not pain. It was not sharp enough to call pain. It was more like—a flickering. I become distracted that I fail to notice their leader behind me. Sudden pain takes over my chest as if a knife is stabbed deep into it. As if someone is clutching my beating heart. I cannot breathe. Like I was hearing myself from underwater, the words arriving a half-second too late. I lifted my hands and stared at them. They were there. I could see them. I could move them. I touched my face and found it warm. Then I touched my chest, pressing my palm flat against it, and felt nothing. My brows pulled together. I pressed harder, desperate for something, anything. Still nothing. No heartbeat.

Storm I tried to take a deep breath to calm myself down, but my lungs were so tight that I couldn’t get a lungful of air. My heart was beating so fast that I felt like I had tachycardia. My heart doesn't beat steady anymore either. It's always erratic. At times I swear that it stops for a moment. This was one of those moments. It felt like forever until my heart beat again. Every breath I took felt shallow… like too much work.

He took her hand and placed it on his chest, right over his heart. "Can you feel it? My heart's beating really fast..." She stared blankly. Beneath her palm, she could feel those subtle heartbeats, one after another, through the skin and bones. It's only possible to feel a person's heartbeat like this if the person's heart was beating very fast. If it's calm, you wouldn't feel it at all.
