"I used to be invisible, Mike. I could walk down the street and no one noticed me. Now I can't leave the house without security."
"Is that what bothers you most? The lack of freedom?"
I think about it. The physical constraints are difficult, the planned routes, the security details, the constant awareness of cameras. But that's not the worst part.
"It's the trust," I say finally. "I don't know who to trust anymore. People I barely know are suddenly reaching out, wanting to reconnect. Old classmates, distant relatives, people I worked with years ago. Are they genuinely happy for me? Or are they looking for a story to sell?"
