So, I just squint my eyes and check who he is. It's him. He has brought some pillows together with him and he just puts it in the couch and lies over there. Seriously, what's going on with him? Why is he acting weird behind my back? I close my eyes whenever he turns towards me, like nothing is ever known to me. Like I am dead. He lies down on the couch and I see him turning on the light on the book and reading something. Wait! Xavier reads? Like really? This truth is so much more than I could handle. I have never ever imagined that Xavier reads the books.

I simply look around the space as if his anger doesn’t bother me. “I am the alpha of all dragons, Xander. Now you want to explain to me what you are doing here.” He growls. He still hasn’t relaxed although confusion has entered his eyes. Ceron comes forth and I can see that they are speaking. Even though he cannot feel the bond of his mate Cara, I hope that he will be on our side.

She slowly turned her head, her chin tilting upward in a gesture of pure, high-society defiance as she locked eyes with the towering captain of the New York Warriors. Jaxson stood entirely rigid in the foyer. His large hands curled into tight, white-knuckled fists at his sides. The sheer physical mass of him seemed to darken the hallway, his breathing heavy and uneven as his gaze dropped to Chloe’s hands on Liam's chest, then snapped up to Liam’s wide, panicked eyes.

I looked around and saw a tall, muscular guy with dark hair walking out of the shadow. I recognized him. He was the captain of the school football team, a blazing sports star that was famous across the country, playboy number one, and practically a male whore. Lucas Sigler. He was wearing a tailored suit, which fit him perfectly everywhere except the part of his upper arms. It took me a while to figure out that Lucas Sigler was actually talking to me because he walked straight at me in front of everyone. "You..." He lowered his head and stared at me, looking intense.

“I’m not exactly a sports person.” “You will be after tonight. The energy is addictive. Hawthorne versus Westfield is always brutal—especially because of the captains. Brad Walker versus Sebastian Hale. Pure rivalry.” I raised an eyebrow. “Sebastian Hale?” “Captain of Westfield. Tall, insanely talented, and actually a decent guy from what I’ve heard not the cocky asshole type like Brad and his crew. The stands go wild whenever he’s on the ice. Total heartthrob material.” She winked. “You’ll see why.”

I patted his little head and ruffled his hair a little. I dropped my bag and provided a granola bar which I handed over to him. "Thank you,” he said full of smiles. I smiled back in return and nodded twice. "I'm Wayne,” Black dude said and extended his hand for a shake. "I'm Richard,” said taking his hand, “Richard Williams of the United States Special Forces at your service" I added military like, standing at attention. A gasp escaped Nick's mouth as he looked at me with surprise written all over his face. Yeah, the show wasn’t necessary, but I felt a necessity to make the environment more fun.

The room was empty, smelling faintly of industrial bleach and damp paper towels, the harsh fluorescent lights buzzing overhead with a low, irritating hum. While I leaned back against the cold cinderblock wall, closing my eyes and letting out a long, shaky breath, trying to slow the frantic, bird-like fluttering in my chest. My broken wrist throbbed with a dull, sickening ache, but it was nothing compared to the massive, hollow bruise Jaxson’s words had left on my heart. *We don't have time for distractions.* He had looked right through me, his eyes flat and cold, playing the part of the ruthless captain so perfectly that it made me want to throw up.

"I thought you didn't like latte," Alexandria said, arching one of her eyebrows.

One in particular caught my eye. Dante Kade. Captain. Number 17. Ice-blue eyes. A name that came with a hundred headlines and at least five fangirl forums I pretended not to browse. He looked lethal. The kind of lethal that made smart girls run and stupid girls fall. I wasn’t here to do either. I tore my eyes away from the poster and squared my shoulders. The heel of my boot clicked against the tile with more attitude than I felt. I could fake it. I’d faked worse.
