The streetlight started to cast light down, as darkness swept in. “Which one did you bet on?” I look over my shoulder and upward at Hunter. “The one on the end. I saw the chief warrior of the pack walking over to me and he bowed slightly before me. "What is it?" I shot a deadly form at him. "The warriors, they need to find something to drink." He said to me. My face twisted with hate and anger. They were such weaklings. I shot a stare at the tired warriors and back at him. When I came back out I made a coffee and I started repacking my bag again. We needed to hit the road very shortly. I looked outside and saw that the sun was just coming up and I mind linked the warriors, telling them that we were leaving in 10 minutes so they better be ready.

Leo froze, his hand still holding Tara’s. His expression shifted abruptly, his eyes darkening.

Everyone would see him arriving with me. Mr. Hayes pulled the sleek black car right up to the main entrance, past the usual drop-off zone. It was a conspicuous, showy stop. Caden opened his door and stepped out, then calmly walked around to my side and opened my door for me. He offered me his hand, a silent command. My mind screamed at me not to take it, not to let him parade me like this, but his eyes were on me, cold and unyielding. And I saw students turning, looking, whispering.

Raven walked out of the packhouse and saw Carter’s pickup truck parked in front. "Come on, man," Carter called, honking at him. Raven shook his head and got into the passenger seat. "The usual?" As he closed the door, Raven posed the question. Carter nodded and grinned as he started the car. He drove into the forest and stopped by the large tree where the fireflies gathered. Carter parked the car and grabbed the beers. Raven got out and jumped into the truck's back. Carter did the same and handed him a beer. They sat quietly, watching the fireflies.
