I pressed lightly against one of the books. Nothing. I tried another. Still nothing. “Maybe it’s not the books,” Jacob said. “Then what?” He leaned closer, examining the wood itself. “Back panel,” he murmured. I blinked. “What?” “Sometimes compartments aren’t in the books,” he said. “They’re behind them.” My heart started pounding faster. “Help me,” I said. We began pulling books out carefully. One by one. Stacking them on the floor. The shelf slowly emptied. My hands moved faster now.

You don’t reopen ghosts. She flipped to the final page. The resolution was clean. Efficient. Almost elegant. Seven years served. Assets redistributed. No appeals. No further action recommended. It should have satisfied her.

She raised her hand and with her index finger she brushed the books, reading their titles. There were some that said "satanic pacts" others like "the call of the devil" "the forest and its hidden side" "small town legends" "werewolves and the full moon" and the last one said "Wisconsin Cases". Camila took out that last one, the book was big, it had a red cover with the image of the town itself. But that image was in black and white, as if it was taken years ago.

He opened the next box, revealing a pile of romance novels. "Bleh. Never mind." He closed the flap. Why were there so many books here? Pushing the thought from his mind, he got a good look at the tool bench. It had several drawers, all of which were empty when he opened them. Kneeling down, he opened the cabinet doors to reveal that they were also completely empty.

I walked out from my apartment, ready to study. I have 3 classes for today and then I'll just go to Jayson's office. "Elsa!" I turned to see Kevin. "Hey Kev, what's up?" I asked. "Uhmm.. do you have that book? The big one and it's green." He said as he tried to remember it. "Yeah I have it, it's the perspective book." "Yes! That on. Do you have it?" He asked. "Yeah, I have it at home. Text me, I can bring it to work later."
