Casey stood in Alexander’s office that afternoon, jaw tight, hands shoved into his pockets.
“I’ll step away,” he said bluntly.
Alexander looked up from the tablet in his hand. “From what?”
“Public appearances. Cross events. Anything that keeps this story alive.”
Adrian leaned back in the chair beside the desk, watching him carefully. “You think martyrdom solves narrative control?”
“I think me disappearing helps her,” Casey shot back.
Cameron frowned. “Or it makes it look like you’re guilty.”
Casey didn’t care.
“If I step back publicly,” he said, “they’ll lose interest.”
