I screamed, trying to run to him, only for the heartless man to drag me back by my hair. My eyes widened as I saw myfather on his knees, his hands clasped together in front of him. The men towered over him, their expressions cold and unfeeling. “Don’t worry Cassie, everything is going to be ok” my father tried to comfort me. “Please, don’t do this in front of my daughter” he pleaded. "Sorry, but you know the rules," the men said. "No one defies us and lives." My father let out a heart-wrenching scream as the men attacked him, their yellow eyes glowing fiercely in the darkness. I tried to cover my ears and shut my eyes, but it was too late. I already saw everything.

" His words sent a thrill through me, but Susan beamed with uncontained joy. I opened my mouth to tell my father the truth, but I hesitated. I remembered Susan's promise—she only needed one day to experience this life, and then she would return my father to me. So, I swallowed my urge to speak. "Dad, uh… Do you need a housekeeper at home?" Susan shot me a look, silently pleading with my father not to keep me around. My fists clenched tightly. I couldn't believe she was going back on her word. My father turned to me, his gaze softening with an unexpected warmth. Then, slowly shaking his head, he murmured, "It's… it's uncanny how much you look like her." He then asked, "Are you married?"

I say, my heart feeling so full. “Thank you for being so amazing. I love you,” I say, kissing him on the lips. He smiles once our lips part. “I love you too. Now come on, I’m ready to meet them.” I smile, take his hand, and lead him over to the casket. “Hey, Mom and Dad. I’d like you to meet someone. This is Gio. He’s the father of your grandchildren. I know he’s old—” “Hey!” I laugh at Tes’s outburst. “I’m not old—I’m mature.”

“It’s like when he’s around you, he changes. He’s quieter. More careful. Almost like he’s waiting for you to approve of something.” Damian chuckled lightly, warm but measured. “Approval, huh? I guess he wants to make a good impression. I am his girlfriend’s father.” “Dad,” she said sharply, cutting through the charm. “I’m serious. Are you pressuring him? Maybe without realizing it?”

Brittney “My help? With what?” Claire questions, taking a seat on the couch. “Remember how I said your father was in town?” I say tentatively, not sure if I should speak or not. “Yeah, and…?” “I don't know if you are aware of this but he came to New York to change my mind on a case,” I admit, observing her face. “A case? What case?” “It's something a couple of people put together and if I choose to loan my voice, it could turn into something serious,” I tell her as much as I can without dropping a lot of details.

“She’s bringing in killers from the global underworld. Names even I haven’t seen in years. She’s not just building an army. She’s building a bloodbath.” Bain’s gaze narrowed. “And her right-hand?” Viktor hesitated. “Spit it out.” Viktor sighed. “Darius.” Silence. Bain froze. “The man we’ve been tracking… he’s Cassie’s father.” The air in the room shifted. “Impossible,” Bain muttered. “Petrov’s team confirmed it. Darius walked out on Cassie’s mother when Cassie was five months old. Never looked back. Two years later, her mom married Elijah. And you know what happened with him.”

What changed? Cassie got her phone and called her father. “Hi, pumpkin…”, her father said in a singing voice that didn’t sound like it should belong to a vicious Alpha Richard of the Steelbite pack. “Hi, Daddy…”, Cassie spoke in a whiny voice which told him that something was not right. “What happened?” “Luciano told me to scram.” He snorted. “What did you do?”

I am going to get the help indirectly. I didn't know I would meet my father at home by this time of the day. He is barely at home, except when he has guests coming to visit. Even if the father doesn't have anything to do in the office, he goes there just to avoid having contact with his wife. I see Cassie looking at me with a questioning gaze from my peripheral view. I know what she wants to ask me is why I only introduced her to my mother. Father on the other hand is staring at Cassie and shifting the gaze to me at intervals for me to explain who she is. He stops walking when he is close enough and folds his arms.

he glanced to Cassie, "You must be Cassie Madrigal." She nodded and place her hand in front of my father, "Yes, I am. Nice meeting you, sir." "Drop the sir, Cassie. Since you are my daughter's friend, I will let you call me uncle instead of sir. I preferred that." "Sure, uncle. I believe you're tired from traveling, why don't you join us instead and have some warm coffee?" Cassie's kindness strike again, enough to make me widened. What is she planning about? Is she trying to turn me into a bait? Argh!

It's pretty annoying. "As I was saying, Lucas, one of my friend's sons who just came back from the United States, shows interest in you. I've scheduled a day where you will be going on a date with him. You both have to get together and make sure you break up with your useless boyfriend. Lucas is from a well-to-do family. If you both relationship works out and you end up getting married, it won't only lift our financial status but also strengthen the friendship between the two families." My father explained and I got so maddened by his words.
