There caves were deeper sections of where we were living. There was one certain cave that lead to the deaper sections. When we first came to these caves, we made a rule that nobody is supposed to go to these deeper sections as it was not explored yet. The deeper sections of the caves were a mystery to us all. The cave system was extensive and labyrinthine, and we had only explored a small portion of it. We knew that there were many dangers lurking in the deeper sections, including unstable rock formations, treacherous passageways, and even underground rivers.

I am on my hands and knees, crawling like my life depends on it. Behind me, I can hear the heaving breathing of the wolves. They are close behind me. I move through the cave system. I can tell I am going deeper underground. The stones are damp and grimey. I crawl on. They are close behind. I can smell them. I can hear their claws scraping against the damp stone. Then finally, I emerge into a cavern. It is lit by lanterns and the walls extend as far as I can see.

As my eyes adjust to the dim light, I notice the walls are adorned with ancient drawings, telling stories of forgotten civilizations and mythical creatures. Curiosity takes hold of me, and I cautiously step deeper into the cave, my footsteps echoing against the stone floor. The ground beneath me feels uneven, covered in a layer of dust and debris. I reach out to touch the rough surface of the cave walls, tracing my fingers along the intricate carvings that have withstood the test of time.

"I think it's a portal that only I can go through. This space you are seeing, I don't think I am seeing the same space. I think I am seeing the same space but not in the same time period. Those rocks don't look weathered to me when I am pulled into that space. They do now, but not when your hand got lost." I was shivering in fear now. Was this an opening to the past? There was a large stone outside by the cave. Ondo quickly made a fire pit and started a fire. Zara was surprised that he knew how to do that, then he rolled the huge rock onto the front of the cave. Even though the cave looked small, it was large .there was a small entranceway that leads to an underground waterfall and a water hole Zara thought the water would be cold, but it was warm. --- The cave was dark. Narrow. Wet. The sound of the waterfall was muffled here, reduced to a distant rumble. Lucien pulled out his phone. Turned on the flashlight. The beam cut through the darkness. The cave went deeper than I expected. Much deeper. A tunnel, carved by centuries of water, leading into the heart of the mountain. "Can they follow us?" I asked. "They'll try." Lucien pointed the light at the cave entrance. "But they'll be slower. They don't know the terrain."

But sheer desperation gave me the strength to push through, emerging on the other side into another dark tunnel. I didn’t stop to catch my breath. I kept moving, the oppressive silence around me broken only by the distant sound of Caleb’s pursuit. And then, suddenly, the ground beneath me gave way. I screamed as I fell, the world spinning around me. I hit the ground hard, pain shooting through my body. My flashlight skittered across the floor, its beam illuminating the cavern I had fallen into. This space was larger, with towering stalagmites and a shallow pool of water reflecting the light. But it wasn’t the beauty of the cavern that held my attention—it was the figure standing at its edge.

“How do we know you’re not just some crazy person telling us tall tales?” I took a deep breath, trying to keep my composure. “I’m an archaeologist,” I said, my voice steady now. “I’m with my team. We’ve spent years researching the history of this cave and its inhabitants. The creatures inside... they’re not something you want to mess with.” The leader scoffed, clearly not convinced. “An archaeologist? And what kind of ‘team’ do you have, exactly? Who’s going to back up your story?” I stepped closer, lowering my voice but making sure he could hear every word. “I have people with me, and I have the facts. What’s inside that cave is ancient, powerful, and dangerous. You need to turn around now.

The soft drip-drip-drip of water somewhere deeper in the cave, the rustle of ants working on their home, the flap of a moth’s wings, a small animal trapped deep in the caves, trying to find its way out of the darkness, hitting the side of the mountain with a thunderous doof-doof every few seconds.
