Every corpse had its eyes melted clean from the skull.
Bella started to speak, but Zayla clamped a hand over her mouth and hissed, “Don’t. Listen.” There was a ticking, almost insect-like sound coming from the ceiling. Jenifer tracked the sound with her blade, eyes wide. Something moved in the glass overhead—something huge and wrong, a shape resembling a dragon made of living shadow and wire. It circled once, twice, then vanished behind an outcropping.
“We need to get out, or get what we came for and run,” Liam murmured, his voice steady. “If that thing comes down here, we’re dead.”
