Daddy's Bargain
I rubbed my face, trying to focus.
A while later, I heard the door creak. I looked up. Celeste stood there in dry clothes, her hair still damp. She shouldn’t be up.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“Couldn’t sleep again.” She walked in, glancing around. “This room’s bigger than I thought.”
“Stay out of here,” I said, but she ignored me, wandering to the shelves.
She picked up a book, then something else. I froze when I saw it. It was an old photo, tucked behind some files. My mother’s face stared back from the faded picture.
