The roof began to shred, and the room shook, moving the foundation and making everyone hold on. Doc, ever vigilant, stayed with Phoenix and when he said, “Last one Luna, give it all you’ve got!” she grunted and the world paused when this tiny titan came into the world announcing her arrival with lungs that rivaled any Alpha wolf’s howl. The weather miraculously stopped, the sun came out and all was calm as if nothing ever happened. The city that she had been living in for 20 years seemed familiar yet strange to her. "Which building do you like the most?" Damon asked her. When they reached the top, Celeste spaced out as she watched the bundles of buildings down there. Damon suddenly hugged her from behind and leaned close to her ear. "The one with the red rooftop looks the best," Celeste said absentmindedly. That was Golden Nexus, a newly built corporate building. It was currently open for rental. "Okay, got it," Damon said as he kissed her ear. "Huh?" Celeste was confused.

Aurelia started the engine. Moonlight City proper spread across a valley that the human maps called "Cascade Conservation Zone." Humans saw protected forest, hiking trails, the occasional ranger station. We saw the real layout: a town of three thousand souls, built in the lee of a granite ridge, hidden from satellite by canopy so thick it looked like solid green from above. The main street hadn't changed. Same brick storefronts. Same coffee shop with the crooked sign. Same pack hall at the far end — a long building of fieldstone and timber that had been standing for a hundred and fifty years.

Wynne loved being able to plan the upcoming special events – The Hunt and all the formal dinners that went with it, the mating ceremony which would also include the Luna Ceremony. But Celeste did enjoy the other duties of her job. She loved spending time with the children at the orphanage and the schools. The work with the city council and mayor’s office always was a challenge. Especially coordinating events between the two cities within the pack lands. Crystal Pass was the main werewolf city and Crystal Springs was the main pila town. A few smaller villages and townships rounded out the Crystal River Pack.

There was only one crossroad and it was located in the middle of the city. The Silver Crest City Square. It was a place that was lively at night. Millions of people came here to hang out and have fun. It had the malls, cinema, strip club and all other sort of debauched things that people called pleasure. It was also known as the Carnal City. Gambling, drugs, cage fights and underground sex clubs. Aurora gasped and cooed at the things she saw. Street performances and fireworks blew her mind. She had this child-like reaction to all that she saw.

The sun crept slowly across the floor of the Sinclair penthouse, painting golden lines through the expansive glass windows. For the first time in weeks, the atmosphere inside wasn’t pulsing with strategy or retaliation. It was quieter, steadier. A lull, but not of defeat. Of breath. Of space. Celeste stood at the edge of the balcony, barefoot and still in her robe, coffee cooling in her hands. She looked out over the Los Angeles skyline, the city that had both crowned her and crucified her, the same city where she’d found her way back to Damien.

He'd let me be this time. Caden and I stood upon the glass porch of the Crescent tower, a gigantic body of glass and hyper technology, overlooking the vast city before us. From where we stood, we could see multiple movements, the full moon, big and bright above us, illuminating the paths for the wolves who had shifted to race. Joyous howls came from every side, as the wolves basked in the beauty of the moon. “This has to be my favourite part of the festival” Caden said, as we watched the wolves from our elevated position.

I know that leaving Callum and the Moonshadow Pack behind will be the hardest thing I've ever done, but I also know that it's the only way I can truly protect myself and my child. As I step into the cool night air, the moon casting a soft glow on the world around me, I take the first step toward my new life – a life away from Crescent Valley, away from the Moonshadow Pack, and away from Callum. It's a journey into the unknown, filled with both hope and fear, but I know that I must face it with courage and determination, for the sake of my child and for the chance at a brighter future.
