My body responded instantly, arching toward him despite the voice in the back of my mind that screamed how wrong this was. We were supposed to be in control. Focused. But with him, I couldn’t think, couldn’t breathe. The danger only made it worse—made it better. “This is a bad idea,” I gasped as his mouth moved to my neck, his teeth grazing my skin just enough to make me shiver. I hated how much I wanted him, how much I craved the darkness he carried with him. He was supposed to be my partner, my enemy, my—something I couldn’t quite define.

Only static answers. Then silence. Long. Heavy. Absolute. Something shifts inside me — slow, final, like a lock turning. Adrian caught it instantly. “What?” he asked, his tone curious but light. Grayson’s eyes fixed on the swirling amber in his glass. “I owe karma one,” he muttered, voice dark and quiet. “And it did me dirty.” Adrian’s smile faded. “You good, man?” Grayson just smiled thinly. “Let’s drink.”

Now, I am more than familiar with this look and the subtle hint of dark desires which are lacing his thoughts, I can see them through his eyes and the way the gears of his brains are working hard and fast to think of the ways to take me.
