One second I was staring at Victor Hale, trying to process everything he had just told us. The next, the world disappeared in noise, heat, and darkness. The floor shook beneath my feet. Something crashed nearby. Dust filled the air so quickly that I couldn’t breathe.
For a moment, I had no idea which way was up.
My ears rang violently as I struggled to push myself upright. The basement had gone completely dark. The only light came from a small fire flickering somewhere near the far wall. Shadows danced across the room, turning familiar shapes into something terrifying.
