The Moon Chose Me Twice
He nods once and disappears.
“Anything else?”
I swallow again.
“I need your blood,” I say.
“Fine. Take however much you need.”
“Not fine,” I correct, then immediately regret the tone. Charlie’s eyes narrow.
“Not yet. Not until we know what we’re cutting. If we use your blood at the wrong point, you might amplify the relay instead of severing it.”
Charlie’s lips part, then close again. “You’re terrified,” she observes accurately.
“Yes.”
Charlie shifts slightly, rocking Orion in a slow motion that is instinctive, almost unconscious, and in that small movement I see the truth of her.
