No arguing. We also watched a movie. To decide which movie we did some rock, paper, scissors, the best way to decide, and I won. So, I wanted to watch Charlie's Angels (the new one of course). She carelessly leaned against the gold race car, seemingly recreating the scene of a drag racer who had reached the mountaintop and was now enjoying the view. Her entire body appeared relaxed, carefree, and uninhibited. The excitement among the crowd soared. The audience could not help but cheer unceasingly.

I watched as the innocent look in her face grew cold and was immediately filled with a mischievous look she always gave me when no one was watching. "Evelyn," she breathed, faking a gasp of surprise. "You’re still here? Oh, sister, I hoped you had found your own happiness by now." Charlie turned his head, and the joy in his eyes turned into pure, unadulterated disgust the moment his gaze landed on me. He didn't let go of Serena. In fact, he pulled her closer, shielding her from me as if I were a plague.

She simply stood, her head tilted, listening to the room below as if it were a symphony of insects. A wave of startled whispers rippled through the hall. “The Vellaro girl…” “She’s blind?” “What is she doing here?” Rose, standing at the foot of the stairs, looked up at her, her beautiful face contorted with a hatred so pure it was almost admirable. Seraphina, sensing the focus of attention, turned her head slightly. She couldn’t see the venom in Rose’s stare, but she could undoubtedly feel it. A small, almost imperceptible smile touched her lips. It was not a smile of joy or triumph. It was a smile of acknowledgment. The smile of a queen recognizing a courtier’s petty jealousy.

The way he looked at her—filled with something vile—made her stomach churn. Disgusting. There were countless reasons she despised this man. “Won’t you invite me in?” he asked with a smirk. Charity said nothing, stepping aside reluctantly to let him enter. He joined his wife and daughter, stuffing themselves with her food. When they finally left, their stomachs full, her uncle glanced back at her, giving her a sly wink that made her blood run cold.

Sean didn’t return to Jersey City until a week later. The breeze in late April carried a hint of warmth. Dressed in a black shirt and tailored slacks, Sean cut a tall, striking figure. There’s always more to a person than meets the eye. Looks can be deceiving. He was easier to like than I expected. His warmth and humour were infectious. We went on a road trip to an amusement park.
