The shadow from earlier lingered nearby, watching me and occasionally drifting from shelf to shelf. I should have been alarmed, but instead, I found myself smiling. Somehow, the strange little creature felt familiar now, like an unexpected friend. Outside, darkness settled over the kingdom, and moonlight spilled across the library floor. I turned another page, then froze. The shadow had moved closer without me noticing. Slowly, carefully, the darkness stretched upward, forming a thin ribbon before wrapping itself gently around my wrist. I stared, and the shadow immediately went still

Stories don’t often begin with touch. Sometimes they start with stillness. There’s a pause too heavy to ignore, the kind that turns silence into a presence of its own. A room that should be empty, except it isn’t. Shadows Between the Lines grew from a question that swirled like smoke through my mind: what happens when desire mingles with secrecy? It caresses my ear, sending a shiver down my spine. Pointing my light in that direction, I draw closer, chasing after what seems to be my own shadow. What is happening? I'm definitely losing it. The shadowy form darts into a corner like a squirming rat. I go after it, shoving things aside, but before I can touch it, it slips away again. My heart pounds as I desperately try to wrap my head around this. For nearly five agonizing minutes, I play literal tag with this shifty brat.

Book 2: Crown of Shadows Chapter 1: The Departure The carriage door closed with finality that echoed through her chest like a death knell. Through crystal-clear windows enhanced with court magic far beyond territorial capabilities, she watched Shadoweave's spires fade into pre-dawn mist. Each familiar landmark disappeared with the inexorable permanence of choices that couldn't be unmade.

Her grief gave birth to the wrath that tainted her as the change took hold. It wasn’t long before she caught up with Daniel and the others. Her mind went to Ava. The woman told her of a plan. One that would see Penny being whole again. Ava needed to live. She needed to retrieve the Book of Shadows. Everything rested on her and the book. What the rest of them had to do was stay alive and keep each other safe. The shadows used themselves as projectiles, rocketing towards Penny. Since they could not render her soulless, they came at her to cause physical injury. Penny allowed her anger to feed her strength.

I couldn't breathe properly, I was trying as hard as I could not to remember those painful memories. I have to catch them, I have to find out how they know my mother, and how that necklace is connected to her, I let go of Rowan and slowly stepped back my eyes on her, she was looking at me with scared, confused eyes "Don't move' I whispered loud enough for only her to hear. I slowly started walking to where one of the Shadows was standing, I have to be careful, one wrong move and it would escape I slowly raised my hand about to grab his arm my eyes on the ground looking at the shadow "behind you" the other Shadow shouted heading towards the window.

Hot and cold like frost setting in on her body, Chiri concentrated on her breathing as she measured it carefully in order to ease herself into the pain. The spell echoed by the other shadows within the room, their voices intermingled into a haunting chorus. The chill of the fear it inspired causing her blood to feel as though it was freezing over, Chiri’s body shook from the iciness and agony. Before she was suddenly hurled onto the ground by the intense force of her shadow being pulled away from her. Intending to not resist, her stubborn shadow seemed to staunchly disagree with her decision. Unlike the instances where she had severed her ties to it briefly, her shadow clung to her now.

Every step was fraught with danger, and the air crackled with tension. As we neared our destination, a sudden realization struck me. The Shadows were not just an external threat. They had infiltrated our lives, entangling themselves in our past and present. We had unwittingly played into their hands, dancing to their tune without knowing the full extent of their control. The final confrontation loomed before us as we entered a vast chamber bathed in eerie blue light. The enigmatic leader of The Shadows stood before us, a figure shrouded in darkness, his identity concealed. His voice reverberated through the chamber, chilling our bones.
