Since Lucen wouldn’t be back until morning, I didn’t bother dressing in black. I slipped into the one white shirt I’d smuggled buying from the mall yesterday... soft linen, delicate seams. It was my color. It wasn’t his color. But for once, I wanted to wear something that wasn’t a lie. Something me.
I put on earbuds, let the music flood my veins... something old, something sad. A melody about love and loss and forgetting. I danced. Slowly at first, then with abandon. Spun across the floor, arms wide, head back, singing under my breath.
