A ripple of power lanced through the air and the ground rumbled beneath me. “What–” Jack gave me a wide-eyed look. I just shook my head. My leg was still too bad. I couldn’t stand up, couldn’t walk. All I could do was watch as Celeste stood amid the fight. She tilted her head back and howled. The crackle of her power lanced through the air like lightning, and then the street was being torn apart. “Oh my God,” Jack breathed.

“You’re lying.” “Why would I lie?” Chiarra’s smile widened. “Darson loves me now. You’re nothing but a barren old hag. It’s time you accepted that.” The words struck Celeste like a physical blow, but she didn’t flinch. Her expression remained impassive, though her hands trembled slightly. Before she knew it, she had raised her hand and slapped Chiarra across the face. Chiarra didn’t recoil. Instead, she laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. “You’re pathetic.”

We eat in near silence, though it’s obvious that the wolves are mindlinking the whole time. “So, Citra, how are you?” Celeste asks. “Fine, High Priestess.” Citra responds in a monotone, her eyes downcast to her food. Her mate, Michael, rubs his fingers over her hand and she visibly relaxes. I see Celeste’s eyes zero in on that little touch, her face turning stonier. Her voice comes out as cold and hard as steel. “Who is this wolf and why is he touching you?”

The entire chamber exploded in light. The screams stopped. The shadow retreated. The seal stitched itself together with a final pulse of silver. And then— Silence. Celeste collapsed, unconscious. Lyra fell to her knees, gasping, the mark on her chest now glowing faintly—dim, but alive.

I watched as he stood up from his throne, coming forward. “Child to William Graham and the Royal Queen Calypso. Half werewolf, half mermaid. A hybrid and a gifted child, who was named Celeste.” he chanted unbelievably. It had been a while since I heard anyone mention my father’s name. “Are you her?” he asked. I nodded immediately. “Come here, my love.” he said, pulling me into a hug. After a while, he untangled himself from me, looking at me in the eye.

I was kind of afraid for a second there, thinking that she would randomly burst out in anger upon hearing what I said. "You and I will never get along, won't we?" She held onto some strands of my hair as she gently twisted it to play with it. "Sarina's curse isn't that hard to break, I know. If only she didn't prevent me from revoking her curse, then I swear, I wouldn't be bothering you right now."

The wounds were healed, but the exhaustion clung to him. Celeste circled slowly around the chair he was chained to, her eyes sharp. The rogue tilted his head back, recognition flashing. “I know you. You’re the one he wants.” The smile deepened, unnerving. Without responding, Celeste placed her hands on either side of his head. “Hey! What are you...” His words broke off as his body went limp, his head lolling forward. Celeste’s eyes turned pure white as she slipped into his mind.
