I was feeling the pain of the sprinkles of holy water being thrown at me, it's like glass cutting through my flesh. I was wailing with pain as every words written in that stupid bible cuts my insides, I can feel my bile rising up my stomach as I vomit brownish green fluids out. I can feel myself weakening. It's as if my soul is being cast out of Cassidy's body.

His mood changes in an instant. He looks like Sunny just asked one of the most dangerous questions that she could ask. The sweetness of the candy is already gone and his stares send shivers down her spine. If glares can do something to a person then maybe she’s dead and cold meat already. That’s how dangerous he looks right now.

It thrashed on the ground, limbs twitching like they were trying to tear themselves free, and smoke curled off its blackened skin. Allen’s eyes snapped to it. “Is it—?” “Reacting to the skeleton,” I growled, narrowing my eyes. “I think so.” I stepped toward it with the skeleton in my arms, and the creature shrieked. It made a sound so shrill and desperate that it made my ears ring. The closer I got, the worse it shook, like the very presence of the bones was hurting it. I dropped the skeleton right beside it, and as it touched the ground, the part of the creature nearest to the skeleton began to sizzle.

He swallowed a breath that choked his throat, taking a step or two backward involuntarily. Deep inside, atop a wide, flat stone bed. Upon it lay two spine-chilling skeletons, side-by-side, crumbling white after being weathered for a century by sea winds and moisture. And these were no corpses of beasts rolling about, but human forms arranged with profound tenderness and neatness. An ear-splitting scream tore through the silence. In that instant, In-young—unable to overcome her anxiety left by the pool and having crept up behind the man's back—faced the skeletons head-on and let out a piercing scream.

Weapons emerged from the pool of blood, and finally, the skeletons wobbled before Chase, numbering more than a dozen. Chase leaped onto one of the skeletons' shoulders. The skeleton crumbled to dust under his weight. With a wave of his sleeve, a gust of energy swept over the skeletons, reducing them all to ash. Chase turned his gaze back to the woman behind the tent. She was now giggling silently while covering her mouth. Smiling, he wondered aloud, "Are there any real monsters or ghosts around here?" The woman's movements were stiff as she slowly raised an arm and pointed to herself.

Chapter 1: Atlas Atlas wakes up to the sound of his own teeth chattering. It’s not cold. Not really. The air in his room is stale, too warm if anything, the early spring humidity sticking to his sheets. Still, the chattering keeps going, mechanical and involuntary, until he clamps his mouth shut with the palm of his hand. Another dream. Another vision of his skin sloughing off in the mirror, leaving nothing but grinning bone and gristle. Every time, it feels more real. Every time, he wakes up half-expecting to find the sheets soaked in blood and rot. But it’s just sweat.

The cold stone pressed against my skin, but it was nothing compared to the fire coursing through my bones. At first, it felt like pins and needles—annoying but manageable. Then, the pins turned into jagged knives, stabbing deeper and deeper. My entire skeleton seemed to be alive, cracking and shifting in ways that no human body should ever endure. I clenched my teeth, refusing to scream, but a low growl escaped my throat as every bone screamed in agony.

Becoming an undead skeleton was a punishment brought about by angering a witch, not a blessing of eternal life like a vampire -- although, some would argue that vampires were more cursed than blessed. “I think I’ll start with a leg,” I said, lowering the bone saw to the skeleton’s femur. I let the blade graze the bone. “No! Wait!” the skeleton cried out. “I swear no one sent me. I was attracted to the girl’s scent.” I lifted the blade away from the skeleton’s leg and furrowed my brows. “What scent?” I said. “She has a scent,” the skeleton replied. “And a strong one at that. Strong enough to make me go a little… crazy.”

This scene stunned Jessica. Suddenly, she felt her arm sink. Looking down, Jessica found that at this moment, Caspian could no longer hold on and fainted. "Caspian…" As soon as Jessica said a word, not far away, the cold voice of the skeleton suddenly sounded. "You... still want to leave?" Swoosh! The sword light flashed and drew a circle. The chains that bound the skeleton instantly shattered like withered leaves. This scene shocked Jessica. Although she had never experienced the hardness of this chain with her own hands, something that could tie a person like the skeleton could not be an ordinary thing.

The skeleton began bubbling hard as the liquid sizzled against the dry bone structure. It bored into the marrow like acid, making the ancient cage rattle violently. The silver wires holding the ribs together began to glow red-hot under the sludge. The witch didn't stop, scooping more liquid out of the pot with rapid movements. She poured it over the arms, the spine, the legs, and the shattered pelvis. She kept on pouring it until she completely emptied the whole content of the cauldron. The skeleton was now completely submerged in a thick, boiling layer of violet sludge.
