The chopper tilted again, the airspeed blowing up. When a leech shouldered the side door trying to get in, I stood and rushed over to it. "Hilda!" Vaughan yelled, sounding frightened for the first time since I've known him. "Get back here now!"

Viper, the king of the streets, looked up, his face pale under the wash of the helicopters' searchlights. He didn't question me. He whistled, a sharp, piercing sound that cut through the engine noise.

Nonetheless, Caspian would not give the alpha gopher a chance to take a breather, and he immediately leaped high in the air. Then, as if his legs were long whips sweeping across the void, they abruptly fell downward.

Ryan POV “Why the heck are you crying over the phone?” I immediately paused the movie I was watching , some romance thing with too much kissing and sat up because Champ was actually sobbing in my ear. Like full on wet sniffling, shaky breath, mucous vibrating sobbing. He had called me minutes ago sobbing on my ear like he called me just to do that. “Champ?” I said slowly. “Are you dying? Did someone beat you? Did Ethan threaten you? Blink twice.”

For the second time, Chloe melted into a pool of water and disappeared into the ground.
