Knowing that he has moved on caused her more pain than she would have liked to give him credit for. She thought she would never experience pain like that again in her life, since she has been numb to it for the past two years. The pain that came after realising that had not been good enough for her own mate, and the hollowness and the void his rejection had caused her was on another level. Looking down at those stormy grey eyes just like his fathers, she felt like she had been left out on a huge part of what her life would've been if her mate hadn't rejected her, and at this moment she loathed him for rejecting her and stripping her off of her happiness.

She thought to herself. "When I saw the one whom the moon goddess chose, I wasn't a bit attracted to her." "I least expected such a shrimp looking person as my mate," his words dropped like a bombshell. Freya shuddered. Her pupils shook. "To end things, I've come to the conclusion of choosing the right one for me and not accepting the garbage that was chosen by the goddess," he said further. My fingers trembled. He said nothing new. His rejection had already landed; I’d heard the words. But his stillness made it worse, as if he refused to witness the damage he’d done. I let the breath shudder out of me and did the only thing left that didn’t feel like dying: I made a choice. “I accept it.” My voice snapped like a thin wire. “I, Anya Voss, accept your rejection, Alpha Rowan.” The reaction was immediate and savage. White-hot pain exploded through me, not like heartbreak but like being ripped open. It clawed down my throat, stole air from my lungs, and everything went bright.

Better to be rejected than murdered in my opinion even though I did hear rumors here and there than being rejected was sometimes even worse than death in itself. The rejection supposedly left your soul empty and there was no happiness left in you. In time you turn into a vicious beast that cares for nothing and no one. That was not the best option either, but I was adamant to believe that those rumors were just that. Rumors. You know what they say, you tell yourself anything just to make an excuse for your actions or something like that.

And now, they were giving me a choice that wasn't a choice at all. Step down quietly… or be rejected like I never belonged. But I wasn't going down quietly. Not this time.

Two weeks passed like a blur, anxiety crippled Pamala. There were no other letters or threat. Whoever it was must have been bluffing, it was a silly trick. She didn't dwell too much on it. She was anxious about stepping outside, now the news of her Rejection had spread like wildfire she didn't want to people people throwing her looks of mockery or pity anywhere she went to, so she didn't go out at all. But it would be good to find a job and support her parents now that her hope for a mate was crushed. It was hard living, she felt like a shell.
