I slam my door shut and finally release a breath. I read through Isabella’s file again, going through her weak points, her strengths and everything possible to know about her. I have read through it a million times but every time I still find myself going back to it like it's muscle memory. I sip my drink, reading Leonardo’s file too, trying to understand what letters he was talking about but nothing aside from the fact that he is a sexual predator making me bite back my anger.

He stretched his arms and the store manager came back with a box and they exited the store. “I’ll see you tomorrow at church, okay?” Danny said, and they parted their ways. While Danny left the place in his car, Christian walked a few miles and entered a café and, while waiting for the potential client, his eyes fell on the bookshelf. “The Antagonist Of My Life by Scarlett,” Christian read and abruptly stood up to take it from the shelf.

Vimar and Brage sink into the grass, while Indra manages to stay upright. "Your friends aren't as strong as you are. You're interesting, little girl. Who are you?" Indra raises her chin, looks defiantly into the fairy queen’s bottomless black eyes and replies in a strong voice: "I am Indra, the Devil's Daughter." Melia's backing away. Her companions make hissing noises and the ashen fog retreats several meters revealing blossoming wildflowers underneath. Melia raises a hand and the fog stops. Then she turns back to Indra and studies her from top to bottom. "I didn't know Lucifer had a daughter..."

”Nice flowers.” Wendy commended as soon as Rebecca entered the room. Rebecca on the other hand didn’t pay attention to what was said. She was lost in a world of her own thought. She didn’t see the face of the biker, but from the sound of his voice, she could tell who it was. It was a voice she would recognize anytime, any day. The voice of the devil who haunts her in her dream. A pat on the shoulder brought her back to reality. She jerked and the flower slipped from her hands, but Wendy caught it before it could fall to the floor.

About halfway through the volume, an illustration caught my eye—a dark, formless entity emerging from a tear in reality, tendrils of shadow reaching toward a human figure. "'Unlike lesser spirits that merely influence or possess their victims temporarily, the eldest of the Bound Ones—those we name the Devourers—are capable of complete integration with a living host,'" I read, a chill running down my spine. "'The process begins with influence, subtle manipulations of thought and emotion. Then possession, where the entity can control the host's actions for brief periods. But the final stage—integration—is far more dangerous.'" Sin leaned closer, her expression grim. "Keep reading."

it said, its voice dripping with malice. "Who are you?" Michael demanded. "I am Khaos, Nefaria's ruler," it replied. "And I've been expecting you." Khaos revealed a shocking truth. "The Devourer isn't a mindless beast," it said. "It's a symptom of a greater problem." Ruth's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?" Khaos smiled. "The Devourer is a creation of the Ancients, designed to cleanse the universe of flawed civilizations."

Her gaze reminds me of a terrible past but her freckles make me enlarge the photo until those little spots are splattered across every inch of my screen. I don't realize I've been caught staring at the image until Junnev clears his throat. He gives me a questioning look while I glance at Malakai who's currently blowing a gum balloon. “Ever heard of the KMJ Gone Girls?” Junnev shrugs like I knew he would, he only lives for food, football, and our brotherhood, but Malakai's eyeballs nearly bulge out of his skull.

The timer on the screen read: 23:47. Claire’s muffled scream echoed through the speakers as the blade pressed closer, drawing a thin line of blood. Elena’s world narrowed to that single image. The man who had just killed for her, who had confessed his year-long obsession, now stood at her side as the real cost of their twisted union stared back at them in high definition. The devil’s contract had just claimed its first true casualty, and the night was far from over.
