Samuel brought his wife to a table by the window; Christopher tiptoed over to Johann’s side. “Brother Johann, who is this man?” he asked. Johann emitted an unsympathetic harrumph. “Christopher Lane, go and dig a grave and bury yourself in it,” he said. “I’m not going to suffer in your place. If I get into trouble because of this, I’ll never forgive you.”

I frown. “You bow to Amelia,” Chris points out mischievously. I go to argue only to quickly shut my mouth. He’s right. She’s always trying to get me to stop doing that and yet I refuse to and now here I am trying to stop others from doing it. He’s my friend.” My three bodyguards obliged and Carlo walked to me. He was the nephew to Stefano Mancuso, the leader of one of the four mafia families in Italy. He and I were not friends.
