Darian’s stare did not waver. “I need two things,” Darian continued, teeth grinding. “First, I must discover the whereabouts of the witch’s gemstones.” His fists clenched tighter. “Second, I need more armies. Not mortal soldiers… spiritual beings.” The words hung in the smoke-heavy air. The shaman’s eyes widened, his body trembling as though the very thought drained the warmth from the room. “M-my prince… you mean the army of the dead?” His voice cracked with fear. Darian’s lips twisted into a cruel smirk.

“And then?” Josh whispered. “Nothing!” I sputtered. “Nothing happened.” “What do you mean nothing happened?” Jenny sounded dumbfounded. I covered my mouth when I yawned before answering. After showing up at the bar again, walking me home, and basically camping on the porch, Christopher had disappeared sometime in the morning. That bastard. I’d spent most of the night staring at the ceiling, waiting for some sound from outside. And had it happened? No! Now I found myself feeling hopelessly tired and annoyed at myself for not calling the police.

Darwin thought. The following day, after a feast and an hour of rest, Darwin made his way through the graveyard of shrines in Wildwater, near Munster Lake, to reach his destination. His injuries had been bandaged, and he was on his way. His shoulder ached from the brutal werewolf cuts that had been inflicted on it. His ribs and right arm were bruised as a result of the trolls' upheaval, but he was otherwise successful and, above all, alive. He was not entirely certain that he was thankful to be alive, though.
