“I’m in the secured room off of Ethan’s office. I can hear them fighting in the pack house though. Kev is out there. I can’t hear him though and I don’t want to distract him by reaching out through the link.” My eyes narrowed in on the turn to take onto their territory. Holding tight, I started the turn early. The wheels, very loudly, protested against the sudden shift in trajectory. The whole back end of the car started to fishtailed but this car was a rear-wheel drive. Once I managed to lock in the wheels, the drift helped us continue down the road and I felt the shift of the territory in matter of minutes.

I said to the worker over the ride. "This way please. He answered. We both said thanks and made our way to seats. This is a ride where you are seated with 12 other persons in a circular pattern. When the ride starts you are gradually taken in the upward direction and then there are sequence of bounces and freefall drops. It is really fun!

“Step into the circle. Let the fire respond to you. Summon it, shape it, command it. And remember—fear will weaken you. Confidence will strengthen you. Focus.” Evelynn stepped forward, the cool morning air brushing against her skin. She placed her hands on the stone, feeling the pulse of energy beneath her fingers. The fire surged, bright and insistent, and she let it flow, shaping it into a sphere of light hovering above her palms. A gust of wind swept through the clearing, and Evelynn flinched, the sphere wobbling. Shadows appeared at the edge of the circle, small, flickering shapes meant to test her. She clenched her jaw and focused, pushing the fire outward, guiding it, containing it.

Raine stepped into the center of the carved circle. “Take your positions.” The volunteers moved cautiously into the outer ring. Twelve evenly spaced points around the design. The silver lines beneath their feet glimmered faintly. Eryx had built the circle to amplify resonance feedback. Meaning they would feel everything. Good or bad. Lucian leaned against the courtyard wall. “This should be entertaining.” Raine ignored him. She closed her eyes and reached gently into the lattice. The network responded immediately. Not dramatically. Just a soft rising hum that spread through the circle.

“If you could all sit, we can start. Just make sure all of your body parts are within the circle.” She taps her staff against a small circle of crystal inlaid to mark the very center of town in a scattered rhythm. It glows, and then gives way, creating a hole just large enough for the staff to fit. The blue crystal nestled within the cage flashes, and a net of blue lightning forms in a large, overhead dome. “Everyone move towards me,” she offers. “Unless you want to lose a wing.” Before anyone could question why, the earth shook. And the circle began to rotate, twisting downward like a screw.

A realization suddenly struck her in the heart, and she couldn't help trembling in fear. 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨! 𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮! “Have you guys heared about circular movement?” She asked, not wanting to alarm whatever's controling them right now. It was obvious that something is using visual illusion to make them think they're moving away from here in constant speed—but the truth is, they're just moving in circles.

Instead, he turned to the wounded one, continuing the conversation in his other language. Garlic, I think it was? Or Gaelic? I finally figured out that the wounded one was Giles. The older one was Irve, and the younger one was Pippin. Which made me smile since ‘pippin’ meant ‘small one’, where I was from. And there was nothing small about the very long redhead, that - while skinny and scrawny - was easily the same height as the bulky man I'd been sharing a horse with. “Come on!” Markus announced and turned to the horses again, getting ready to mount. “We’re leaving.”

Something about her kept pulling him back like a magnet, tempting him to turn around over and over again, he simply couldn’t figure out what. Soon, they were zipping over a single track and closing in on the next station. Minutes later, Dev alighted at his stop. ***
