“Prophecy is just poetry until someone works for it.” Her words landed like seed in soil. I knelt beside her and took another plant from the tray, a small moonbloom just opening at the tip. I pressed it into the center of the circle and smoothed the dirt around it. “Then let this be proof of labor,” I said. “The first bloom of the new cycle.”

A circle drops around us like a smug idea. And that’s where I’d like to swing, but this isn’t my chapter to finish; Allie’s up next.

When I stepped into the circle, the lines lit up, all different colours of the district and the circle had a golden glow. All the witches broke into a verse known as The Mother’s Song. Closimh my eyes, I joined along. As the pitch increased, so did the glow of the lights until the floors shook and parted. My feet remained on an invisible ground, keeping me steady. The sweet smell of roses wafted through the air. It felt like loving arms wrapped around me, promising hope and comfort for all the pains and worries I have ever felt. I wanted to remain forever. The verse ended and I knew it was time for me to recite my oath.

Here goes nothing. "The sun rises in the east". I mumble and turn towards the wall. I take a deep breath to collect myself. "Here is the edge of the circle. Nothing but love can enter. Nothing but love can leave". I read while I walk a clockwise circle. "Fill this circle with your divine energy, Great mother and Great father". It feels awkward, but I manage to convince myself that it doesn't matter.

The top half of the page is covered by an intricate design. The center of the design is a small square with a circle surrounding it. Around the circle are letters. Then several concentric rings surround the letters, each one larger than the last. Some are made up of circles connected together. Others are made of octagons and other shapes. The circles end and triangles form yet another circle around the design. In each triangle is a number and each number is different. Finally, there is one last circle that surrounds the entire design and connects the point of each triangle together.

I drop down again below the hedge and something flashes into my mind, slicing through my consciousness like a sword through flesh. Every song is its own sort of spell, and every spell is like a broken circle. Don’t forget that. The magic is in the great lengths that the universe will go to in order to complete that circle. To achieve wholeness. Perfection. Infinity. The words echo in my ears as if they were spoken just a moment ago. I shake my head, trying to clear it, before peeking once more over the hedge.

This circle represents the power of human connection in overcoming challenges and building a better future." Miranda nodded, her eyes shimmering with tears of awe. "Indeed, Nathan. It is a testament to the strength found in our collective bonds and the capacity for growth that lies within us all."
