You can’t just try to bring back a maniac in Axel’s life. I told you, I will kill her the minute I see her.” Asher warns me again angrily. “Asher, this isn’t about you. This about your brother’s happiness-“ I start telling him but he just looks at his brother in disbelief. “Xena, stay out of it. Also, stay away from Jace. He is not good news.” Archer tells me but I just snort.

JASPER I shuffled my hand through the cold congealed lasagna. Fully used to it and ones far more worse than this, I ought to have finished it but not when my mind was going through a tough time of indecision. “Hand it over in case you’re too emotionally down to eat. I shall finish it up for you, the pleasure is mine.” My eyes tore across the cell, and there he was, flashing his blackened tooth at me. Archer is a bastard. He toys with me without fail even though he knew I was always fully ready to beat him to stupor like every other time.

Then he clears his throat to speak, and when he does, his voice is low and authoritative, eerily reminiscent of his father, and his words give me déjà vu. Others were books on philosophy. “Messy," he leaned back. My face scrunched with growing annoyance. Another silence followed, long enough for my patience to wear thin. I leaned back in my chair.

“You never told me that, baby girl?” Christian’s voice floats my way as Jenny nudges me gently and nods across the aisle. I had finally gotten into my book after all and blanked them all out as I was pulled into a magical world of Vampires and Werewolves fighting over human girls. I look up nonplussed, catching Arrick glancing my way with that infuriating unreadable expression and yet a softness to his face that I haven’t seen in a long time. He almost looks a little bit happy and it just makes me feel shittier.

The whiskey is smooth on the way down, and I take another drink, wanting it to dull the ringing in my head, reminding me that my choices have led to hurting Chloe in the past…and how they’re going to again. * “I think we’ve been replaced,” Archer says, looking over his shoulder at Quinn and Chloe, who are walking down the sidewalk with their arms linked, laughing hysterically at something one of them said.
