Shawls Academy: Claw Spirits Battle
Distantly, I was aware of my claws digging furrows into the classroom floor, of the professor's voice shouting something about a healer, about time running out, about a boy who might not make it another minute like this.
I wanted to tell them I could hear all of it. I wanted to tell them I was still in here, somewhere, underneath the smoke and the scales and the animal panic clawing through my thoughts. No sound came out that resembled words.
Murmurs reached me through the haze—the human girl's voice, low and constant, a tether I clung to without understanding why.
"It's okay," she kept saying. "She's here. She's coming back. Hold on."
Then—water.
