I groan internally. My name is Mariah Cruz. I'm 17 years old and starting my junior year today. My Father, Mark Cruz, is the current Beta of our pack, The Royal Moon Pack, and my mother, Jennifer Diaz, is the Beta female. My Brother Josh Cruz is 18 years old and a senior in High School. He is training to become the next Beta when our Alpha, Jason Adams, decides to retire and hand the title to his eldest son, Nick Adams. Nick is 18 and is also a senior in high school. He is also my brother's best friend.

Of course, I love my mom but my dad always has her protected so I don't need to worry too much. Luckily for me, I have Will here with me and as my Gamma, it's his job to have control over the warrior's patrol shifts. "Will, do you know if Ryan and Tony are on patrol today?" He stares up at the sky as he thinks before shaking his head "No, they are on the night shift tonight on the East border." One thing about Will is his incredible memories of the patrol rotas, rarely, he doesn't know who's on patrol and when. We have a lot of warriors and for him to remember all those details is mindblowing.

The scent of lavender, roasted coffee beans, and sea air tangled in the breeze as I stepped out of the car, my flats crunching softly against the stone. Adam stepped around to open the back passenger door for Mrs. Clara with his usual blank expression, while Cedric, yes, that Cedric from the dock, stood a few paces away with sunglasses on and arms crossed, scanning the crowd like a hawk. He didn’t speak much, but his presence alone was enough to make anyone think twice before getting too close. Damien told me Cedric was his fifth commander. Whatever that meant in this clan hierarchy, one thing was clear, he was loyal to Mrs. Clara too.

I, personally, am not in a rush…” When he reached across the desk to shake my hand, I hesitated for half a second before taking it. His grip was firm, confident, too confident. It was almost as if he was proving a point, though to who, that was a question that I didn’t have the answer to. “I look forward to working with you,” he said, holding my gaze as his thumb brushed against my hand before he let go. “I believe that we are going to make a good team together. He glanced at it. One message. Target located. The message disappeared seconds later. Kane stared at the blank screen. Enzo. He had known the man long enough to understand what that message meant. They had found him. Kane exhaled slowly. If there was anyone he trusted to handle something quietly, it was Enzo. No unnecessary noise. No questions that didn't need answers. Kane set the phone down. He walked to the counter and poured himself a glass of whiskey. He took one sip.

He didn't want to give the man before him any form of attention. "A Lion doesn't give birth to a cat," Dennis retorted indifferently. Richard frowned slightly. "Get down and let's talk." Dennis chuckled, "you should have booked an appointment. Right now, I'm very busy." Richard discerned his resistance to having any form of conversation with him, which poked his interest even more. Information had reached him that Dennis was both Tonys' PA and confidentially his head of IT. With a trusted person like Dennis around, everyone they paid to hack into the Wright's empire failed terribly.

Liam wasn't stupid, he knew something set me off. Not that I was trying to hide it. The call wrapped and we spoke with Commander Ryan for a few minutes. Cassi would be joining our team, but first she needed to undergo training and testing, she was clearly elite material though he said. This Kenneth guy though, something bugged me. His manner was way too docile for a fighter, even if he was long-range. Devon had spunk for days and Jason, well he definitely had that ‘something’. This guy? I couldn't sense it unless he was just that talented at hiding it. If that was the case, I would find out soon enough, I always got a better read on people once I met them.
