The icy wind howled straight inside, unbarred. A half-broken sign dangled at the entrance: [4101.] That should be the one! I lifted my foot and headed right for the busted door. The moment I got close, an icy chill seeped up from the ground, boring straight into my bones. I shivered all over. The live chat is on fire. [Holy crap! The old lady’s walking straight into 4101! Cold is honest. I slip out the back door. Bare feet on ice. Sharp. I bite my lip. No sound. Next door lives Mrs. Petrova. Old. Kind. Widow. Her light is on. I knock softly. Once. Twice. She opens. Slow. Her eyes are milky. “Anya?” “Please,” I whisper. “A coat. Just for tonight. I am cold.” She looks at my dress. At my face. Her mouth turns down. She knows. Maybe not all. But enough.

[Alice’s POV] The Swiss winter wasn't just cold; it had a way of biting through you, a cruel precision that seemed to target the bones. I pulled my wool scarf tighter around my neck, trying to preserve the little heat I had managed to generate. It was a losing battle. My metabolism was burning through everything I ate, to feed the life inside me, leaving me perpetually chilled, perpetually fragile.

"He was born in the Harsh Winter. In the North, they say that means something." I shuffled closer. "Means what?" "Now, Yer Highness, the North is always cold..." I nodded to let her know I was following. "But the Harsh Winter is the coldest the Northern realm has ever seen. It is said that the wolves born in the Harsh Winter are different." She glanced around. "Stronger. Harder to kill. Like the cold gets into them when they are small and, ye know, becomes one with them." I thought about the pool last night. The way he'd been so comfortable in the cold, it barely seemed to touch him.

With great difficulty, he carried her through the snow. Arriving at the cottage, Mr. Cold immediately laid Amber near the wood heater. Only then he could see how blue her lips were. Once again, the man tried to wake Amber up. "Miss? Miss!” Unfortunately, the shake he gave wasn't enough to bring Amber to her senses. Feeling desperate, Mister Cold sighed deeply. "I shouldn't have crossed the line. Look at the consequences! She has hypothermia." After nagging himself, the man pulled Amber's glove off. Squeezing those icy pale fingers, he expected a change.

But how? “What are the cold cells?” I ask, and Haely goes rigid. I move around the kitchen counter behind her and wrap my arms over her waist and tug her back flush against me, focusing on the thought of Ivy, imagining this whole fake relationship is one with the only person I really want to have in my arms. It works for a moment until she talks and melts into my arms. “They are in the dungeon. We have different cells for different torture. The cold cells maintain a temperature of negative three degrees Fahrenheit. Where did you hear about them?” She asks, genuinely curious.

“Not exactly. The fainting was triggered by extreme pain and blood loss… but that’s not all.” My heart stuttered. “Then what is it?” He looked me straight in the eyes. “She has a condition what we call a ‘cold womb.’ It’s a severe reproductive disorder. It means her womb has poor circulation, and the tissue is badly damaged.” I felt the world tilt slightly. “Cold womb?”

Smiling Old lady Zhang answered " Truth my dear daughter… It's the truth… This is the truth that you unexperienced people failed to see and I saw in one glance.
