Capital people delivered groceries for sale in the villages the Black Cliff. Spring on the north was late. And in summer it was hardly warmer. For most of the year there was a forever hazy weather, the air was filled with the aromas of dampness and decay, the night cold made you freeze up even while lying under warm sheepskins. In particularly severe frosts, fishermen found stiffened bodies of beggars in sea caves. The wretches tried to warm themselves by a miserable fire but died of cold in their sleep. A whisper went round that even sorceress’s moray eels wouldn’t crave for their bony corpses.

Serah's POV The weather was unbearably cold, biting through my clothes and chilling me to the bone. I wrapped my arms tightly around myself as I walked along the deserted streets, shivering uncontrollably. Each step felt heavier than the last, and the cold seemed to gnaw at my very core. My stomach churned painfully, likely a mix of the freezing temperature and the heaviness in my heart. I just hoped with all my might that I would reach home soon, a warm refuge from this cruel night.

The fireplace crackled, adding a sense of warmth to this winter scene. Bianca handed a cup of hot cocoa to the woman. "Here, take this." "Thank you...!" The woman gratefully took the hot cocoa from Bianca's hand. Their hands accidentally touched, and hers felt even colder than Bianca's. But this chill was different. Bianca's was due to poor circulation, but the woman's was from being frozen! What could be more hopeless than being pinned down in the snow by her own husband in such cold weather? I held on to her hands, reading her tag and realizing that her name was Belinda. The engine was switched off, the cold suddenly being noticed by both of us. Even though werewolves were warm blooded, the heat from our wolves naturally transmitting to our human, but the cold was something else. It left our fingers white, feet frozen as if they would fall off, especially because we all were barely dressed, coming from such a warm place.

But how? “What are the cold cells?” I ask, and Haely goes rigid. I move around the kitchen counter behind her and wrap my arms over her waist and tug her back flush against me, focusing on the thought of Ivy, imagining this whole fake relationship is one with the only person I really want to have in my arms. It works for a moment until she talks and melts into my arms. “They are in the dungeon. We have different cells for different torture. The cold cells maintain a temperature of negative three degrees Fahrenheit. Where did you hear about them?” She asks, genuinely curious.

1 year has passed. The marriage between Alaric and Emerald seemed normal, nothing had changed about Emerald. The girl was still very cold. That morning, Alaric came out of his room, his eyes accidentally fell on Emerald who was reading a book in the living room with a flat face. Alaric approached, he sat down in front of Emerald who did not move at all. "Your mom called you today, I'm busy so go with the driver." Alaric said.

I woke up the next day feeling cold. Marco poured a bucket of cold water on me. "Aren't you supposed to be awake by now?" He asked. I lifted my body and tried to stand up. "What do you want?" I asked and he held my wrist and pressed it. I winced in pain before he released it. "You have a package to deliver for me." He eyed me. "Why can't he send it to DHL?" I asked myself. "What package?" I asked and i got a slap in the face.

Avery’s eyes watered when she saw the man curled into a ball in front of the door. Never had she imagined that a man like him, born into luxury, would indeed sleep on the cold floor. When she lowered herself and her hand met his exposed shoulder, he was too cold to the touch. “Honey please, why did you do this?”

Then blackness. Shit. I finally come to the realization that I was taken. I test my body for injury, but find only old scars and working limbs. I feel no pain, but I cannot escape the icy bite of the marble. I look around for my bag and I find it thrown in a corner of the tomb I have found myself in. I remove the clothes and dress myself in layers. I warm myself enough to stop shaking and I find myself fatigued from my shivers.

The cold sweet took the place over Kristi's forehead, anxious thoughts taking over her mind, her lips trembling and entire body quavering in panic, while she felt as though the world was crumbling around her, her heart and soul nearly dropping from her body. Even breathing felt like a thousands of sharp-pinpointed knife piercing through her throat.
