As we finished our lunch and prepared to leave, Zoe turned to me and said, "Hey, Delilah? If you ever need anything, just let us know. We've got your back."
I smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. Maybe, just maybe, I had found some allies in this harsh and unforgiving place.
