The faces of the three dogs were intimidating. Their drool dripped onto the floor where she stood. "Go away!" Chloe commanded with a trembling voice. "Go away!" The dogs kept getting closer with a menacing growl, making Chloe even more scared. "Do you want to escape, Miss?" the man said. His words made Chloe turn, and her eyes were wide with hatred. "Go ahead. I won't stop you. None of us will."

I nodded. "I will explain the rules to you now and afterward you will have a chance to ask questions. However, after that, whenever you are Bella, you cannot speak. Dogs do not speak. That grin was plastered on her face the whole way across the lot. Not even a yapping Chihuahua off its leash was enough to bring her down. The dog began to growl and bare it’s teeth the closer she and Zen got. Sometimes Leila drew this reaction from animals because they sensed her wolf. But it was hard to tell at the moment because Chihuahuas could be little shits with something to prove. She was tempted to give the dog a good growl to scare it off, but that would take some explaining to Zen. The owner of the small ankle biter was nowhere in sight. “Not today Satan!” said Zen, reaching into her purse and pulling out a can of pepper spray, “stay away Cujo!”

She tried to lunge to her feet, but Heather yanked the leash hard, pulling her back to her knees. "Do you need a muzzle?" Heather snarled. "I've never seen a dog that talks like a human," one of the other girls said. "That's right, she should be barking." "Give us a bark. Make it convincing," Heather snapped. "What—" "I said bark!" She stopped at his feet and very quickly, unexpectedly, she grabbed one of his feet by the ankle and quickly jerked it, breaking his ankle. The sickening sound along with the scream that came from him was loud. She then moved on to his other leg and did the same. I was surprised at her level of torture.

Groaning, I put the laptop on the cushion and stepped out of the pergola to glare at the kennel behind the bamboo screen. I breathed in fresh air, but it wasn’t enough to calm me down when I had yet to type a single word on my laptop, and this massive dog wouldn’t stop the scratching noises inside its house.
