His Runaway Queen
Huge trucks with spinning drums lined the temporary road, their engines idling in a low rumble.
Damian was there, of course. He was standing by the foundation forms, a clipboard in hand, checking the slump of the concrete as it poured from the chute. He looked pale, dark circles under his eyes, but his focus was absolute.
Lucian, Adrian, and I stood on a small rise, watching the grey slurry fill the trenches carved into the granite. It was the skeleton of our future home.
"It looks like soup," Adrian said, wrinkling his nose.
"It’s special rock soup," I told him. "It turns into a floor."
