Trusting. I face the darkness. "Follow me," I say. And I jump.

An in-between feeling of both among the shine of the moonlight. “ Would you like to sleep beside me tonight?” My heart stops beating. “ Huh!?” “ I wanted to sleep beside you, but this barn is cold enough to make you sick. So, let's go inside and let me sleep beside you,” he clearly muttered before yanking my hand and dragging me with him.

Will it be weird and awkward? “Shit!” I mumbled to myself, grabbing the blanket he used when he stayed here the other night and holding it against myself. I glance at the clock and see that it’s 3 am, the room is dark apart from the soft glow of the light beside the bed I keep on. The floorboards beside the window creak, making me sit up. I could see the dark figure lurking just to the side and feel my blood run cold. “Ayla!” he whispers.

The room was so dark I could hardly see anything inside save where that moonlight seeped into to cast over the floor between the window and the table, he’d had all his herbs on before bringing me in here. I realized there was deep, masculine breathing next to me. Warm even breaths along my neck. And a heavy, hairy leg strung over my smoother ones. A large hand palmed one of my breasts and his body was steaming hot next to me. Warming me despite the open window. He’s too close. How’d I fall asleep with my biggest threat so near? I had no idea. I squinted to peer at him. I couldn’t see him at all in the darkness. Only feel him next to me. It surprised me he’d let me cry and let me sleep.

That’s when he whispered a final, muffled word. “Rest well beside me.” And then, everything went dark.

“In the dark… or in the light. Always ours.” I pulled them down to me, blindfold forgotten on the sheets. The night stretched ahead—endless, intoxicating. And I couldn’t wait for whatever they’d do next.

“Rest now. You're out of the dark.” But the dark wasn't out of me.

We are standing in the pitch so black that I can’t even see my own fingers in front of my face. “Sit,” Damon’s voice echoes through the dark, sounding strangely close to my left ear. I drop to the frozen ground, crossing my legs and closing my eyes, though it makes absolutely no difference in the total darkness. I feel the soft rustle of his gear as he sits down directly across from me, the heavy, familiar heat of his body acting as my only navigational beacon in the void.

But I don’t move to the far edge of the bed. And neither does he. We lie there in the darkness, not touching but not running either.

But now it was so dark, I could hardly see a thing. I blinked my eyes slowly into the darkness. It was so dark I could hardly see a thing. Why had the librarian turned off the lights? Did she lock us in? I knew she hated our company but this was extreme and she was just pushing it. I mean we could file for assault with this right?
