Heat prickled at my skin, not burning, but pressing, insistent, like the land itself was waiting for me to speak.
Siora placed a small bowl in my hands, carved from bone, filled with water that reflected the moon above. “Kneel.”
I obeyed, the damp moss soaking through my trousers. My reflection stared back at me from the bowl eyes wide, uncertain, silver flecks swimming in the dark of my irises that hadn’t been there before.
“Close your eyes,” she said softly. “The Moon borne draw not from force, but from stillness. You are not a soldier in this. You are a vessel.”
