Bunches of fragrant herbs and dried flowers hung upside down from nearly every win-dow ledge, scenting the corridors. A shaft of sunlight drew Adrienne's attention to a closed door halfway down the corridor. Etched into the pale wood was an exquisitely detailed prancing horse, rearing ele-gantly, mane tossing in the wind. A single horn spiraled daintily from its equine brow. A unicorn? Her hand on the door, she paused, suddenly suffering an odd premonition that this room might be better left alone. Curiosity killed the cat. When the door swung silently inward, she froze, a hand fluttering on the jamb.

We halt at two heavy metal doors nestled between where the building ends yet attaches to some old rundown closed corner delicatessen. The heavy-looking doors have a rectangular metal slot wide enough for anyone inside to use as a peek hole. Katie begins texting on her phone and no later than a minute or two, the slot slides open in a quick motion. A pair of bulging eyes under dark bushy brows peer over at the three of us, followed by a piggish grunt and the slot closes. Then the burdensome doors creak open fully and all I could see ahead was a mixture of darkness and neon red lights, illuminating a long corridor.

25 am. "Let's get out of here," Ritvik suggested them. Arjun nodded. They both were recalling the footsteps they heard. They both had only one question. 'Were they locked inside?' Ritvik went to check the door. They were not locked inside. The lights of the corridor were normal too. It seems like there was no one other than them. Before anyone comes to open the Office door or Rithvik's room in his home they need to get out of there. Arjun remembered about the helicopter that was left in the Power source room. The corridor ended forty paces farther on, at a second door. This one was made from the same white stone and carved with the same spiral. It was firmly shut, and set into its face at the height of a hand were two hollows. Two. Side by side, each the size and shape of the inside of a wrist. I reached out and placed my left wrist into the left hollow.

The door pulsed with quiet breath, almost as if it were alive—waiting, watching, remembering. Selena stood before it, threads unraveling slowly from her skin, whispering truths she had tried to silence. The corridor behind her faded into a haze of silver and flame, swallowed by the tension of choice and identity. Her palm hovered over the mark etched into the center of the door, its shape identical to the sigil carved beneath her collarbone. It stands alone, in the middle of the woods, surrounded by trees like a sacred temple. “There it is!" Coral whisper–yells, almost jumping with joy. I smile as well, but I still can't shake off the wary feeling. We walk up to the library and stop when we get to its huge black doors. I reach out to open it. " Wait!” Coral says, stopping me before I can even get hold of the door handle. " Something's wrong.” She presses her hand to her temple and shuts her eyes. " Are you okay?” " Yes but…" she trails off her expression wary. “I don't feel good. I feel odd, like there's something that doesn't want us to go in.”

And something older beneath it. Something rotten. Elena stared into the darkness below. Stone stairs disappeared deep underground. The whispers sounded almost excited now. Home. Her necklace pulsed warm against her throat. Every instinct told her to walk away. Instead— Elena stepped inside. The hidden door closed quietly behind her.
