The sovereign seat was answering, but it was making me pay for every inch of authority. Above us, Luna Lea appeared at the broken edge of the ceiling like a storm given human shape. Her hair had come loose. Dust streaked her face. She knows this is temporary — if Selene walks in, Maera will step away.” I stood, slowly. My body ached from the fight, from the waiting, from the weight of a hundred choices.

I soon managed to block it out as the teacher went deeper into the history of werewolves, how they came about and stuff. To my mundane mind, it was the most fascinating story I’ve ever heard and when the class finally came to an end, I remained unmoving, soaking up the knowledge of what I just learned. What could that be?” She lifted her hand, then unwrapped something from a cloth. It was a pendant that belonged to my mother, the one she had given me before her demise, with blood all over it and a bloodied scroll. The chamber erupted with murmuring from different angles.

"Yes. Anything with the surname Costa. Issued around 2023. Birth year: 2019. Use the Blackwell clearance code. Push hard if you have to." He turned back to Isla as the call ended. His voice was low. "Elena’s digging up hard. But the name’s buried deeper than we expected. Noah Costa. We need to find where he is." Isla glanced at him. "Claire buried him in plain sight."
